Porn or Life

Porn or Life

One our participants wrote this poem as an expression of his process walking away from pornography. He agreed to share it with others to give a window into the battle of those struggling.

I like porn.
I don’t want to like it though.
I am fascinated by porn.
But I don’t want to be.

Why?

I don’t want to be, because of the consequences.
I don’t want to be, because of what happens after.
I don’t want to be, because of the effects.

But it’s not just because porn is bad, so there’s consequences. No.

Porn is a cheap lie of what beauty is.
It is a destructive force backed by sexual lust,
Self-seeking, Self-gaining.
It’s an idea, a visual, a mindset
that twists your view of the world.

Oh it might be “innocent” at first,
People might say it’s a man’s way.
But if you say that, then you’ve
already bought into the lie.

PORN

Porn is a construct of our imagination.
An “ideal” world where women are made to serve men.
An “ideal” world where men get all the pleasure
Where women are flawless, perfect, and tethered
to their servitude, their sexual servitude.

PORN
P-O-R-N
Playing Out Rotten Needs

A world where insecurities are at an all time high
Drugged and ignored by a pleasure of lustful satisfaction
Where people grasp for identity
Where people claw for a fake intimacy
Where expectations are high
And the girl that isn’t your perfect, gets kicked to the side as you evaluate the next one

The girl looking for value from her body
The man looking for value for his
Both looking to each other
And leaving … empty.

But not only does it affect you and the girl,
but it affects your view of the actual world.
It’s an idea, a visual, a mindset
that twists your view
of the world.

You once saw a woman
Maybe once saw people, for their stories.
But as porn creeps in,
Narcissism seeps in.

The world around you
is now a place for your pleasure.
Women? They are for your enjoyment,
your objectified treasure.

The world filled with porn
is sadly the norm
Men run the world while women manipulate & scheme to get their needs met …
Both. Narcissistic.

“The world is my playground!” You say.
“It’s my place to run and dance and play …”
But as an adult with lust by your side
with adult films, adult books
and adult fantasies to be your bride,

You have bought into the lie,
Sold yourself to just die.

In your now empty world
with your empty world view,
You can’t seem to remember
what got inside of you.

You look all around and see
you’ve lost something big …
You know it’s not your pride
You kept that intact,
with narcissism by your side.

You look at people and you see what you’ve lost:
The laughter, joy, and smiles.
and the way they share stories
and walk life – together – for miles.

But you?
You’ve been grasping for identity,

clawing for intimacy.
But it’s a fake intimacy.

Your true bride has left you
leaving your pride to get you
only caught up in moments
with your new bride:
the lust by your side.

Why marry such a thing?
Why stay on this route?
Can’t you get off?
Find a way for a turn-about?

But as your bride has changed
So your friends have changed too.
The once loyal ones left
when they saw the real you.
Maybe it’s not the you you wanted to be
but it’s the you you gave into.

Remember pride? The narcissistic one?
The tailor of your new life? Yeah that one!

With lust to back him up
Your eyes wide with pleasure
You listened to him
And his secrets full of treasure.

But each secret you listened to
You died just a little.
The life you thought it brought you
Was really, just, momentary.

Momentary life, for a life full of death.

No more laughs, No more joy, No more smiles.

Grasping for identity
clawing for intimacy, but it’s fake …
So how do you change the ending to this
sad, pitiful, drastic, depressing story?

If your bride has changed
And your friends have changed, too,
Where do you have left to turn to?

The cross is the comeback
the story of a God.
A beautiful masterpiece,
the essence of life in it’s pod.

Your existence, my existence
Our identities in life,
Stories of stories written on the timeline of life.

LIFE
L-I-F-E
Living In Faith Everyday

The act of giving it all away.
That’s what He did.
It was done before you got here.
It was done before me.
The life we live is really a part of a bigger destiny.

The life you choose is the life you get.
So choose wisely, lest you choose to forget.

He gave it all, so you could have it all.
And you were made for it all. In His image.

Full of laughs
Full of joy
Full of smiles

Life has been given with an identity, a vision,
Life given for your part.
So taking, clawing, grasping,
is no longer a necessary art.

The Giver gave,
And He keeps on giving.
The life you need
is one you can start living.

Receive it from Him,
Even take from Him daily,
Because His supplies don’t run out.
His stockpiles are full daily.

Don’t take from the ones who’ve been given to
Because that’s robbing
Take from the Giver,
because He wants to give it to you.
