Entrusted For His Glory

Entrusted For His Glory

Jen H.It’s summer time. That means nice weather, blooming flowers and trees, allergies, outdoor recreation, and around MVF, a break in Support Programs. However, ministry at MVF doesn’t slow down. We are providing two weekly summer programs, presenting the Conquer Series at Adult and Teen Challenge, interviewing next year’s potential interns, walking our leaders through a book study, providing individual counseling, searching for benefit dinner sponsors and hosts, and managing our building and the intentional residential community God has favored us with.

And, in the midst of all this activity, God is providing space for our staff to care well for themselves over the summer. By His provision, each of the staff will have intentional time to engage in restorative time. His provision is perfect in every way, and we have a responsibility to steward well all that He’s entrusted to us.

God has given us authority, dominion, and responsibility over much. And, while he’s placed us in this position, we must remember that “the earth and everything in it, the world and its inhabitants, belong to the Lord” (Psalm 24:1). Some areas of life that we are responsible to steward well are:

Relationships

We were made by God, for God. Our lives have meaning and value because of His love of us. He desires an intimate, passionate relationship with us. We were made for relationship. God intends that we learn and grow in the context of relationship with one another. We are responsible for how we relate with others.

And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.”  Genesis 1:18

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.  Colossians 3:12-14

Sexuality

God created us as sexual beings. He said that what He made was good. We were made male and female; distinct physically and emotionally. God chose our gender. We reflect a part of who He is as we seek to embrace our God-given nature. We are responsible for how we steward our bodies, His temple.

Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.  1 Cor. 6:19-20

Finances/Resources

Every act of giving is first and foremost a statement about the faithfulness of God. God is abundant in His love and giving to us. He is trustworthy to provide perfectly according to His will. We have the responsibility to steward well all that He’s given us financially and physically.

Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest.  Proverbs 3:9

Remember this: The person who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the person who sows generously will also reap generously. Each person should do as he has decided in his heart—not reluctantly or out of necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver.  2 Corinthians 9:6-7

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Share your master’s joy!”  Matthew 25:21

Gifts/Skills/Talents

We’ve each been gifted and blessed with various spiritual gifts and tangible skills and talents. We are responsible to steward well the gifts, skills, and talents He’s given us.

Based on the gift each one has received, use it to serve others, as good managers of the varied grace of God.  1 Peter 4:10

Time

We all have the same 24 hours in any given day. We get to choose how we invest those hours. We are responsible to steward our time in a way that brings God glory and furthers His kingdom here on earth.

“What a privilege to be allowed by Him to use our gifts and skills for reaching people with the gospel of Jesus!”  Larry Crawford, Building Volunteer

Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ.

Colossians 3:23-24

Whether it be in our relationships, sexuality, finances/resources, gifts/skills/talents, or time, may we remember ”God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8).
